Larriers Win First Match In Style

Beast Quest Mania Takes Over!!!

This month has been a very exciting month for the Larriers Library. Thanks to a donation from Citi, we are now the proud owners of every single Beast Quest book!! There have been queues out of the library door of boys lining up to get their hands on the latest Beast Quests.
Due to their popularity, we have formed a Beast Quest Committee who help Miss Sunderland organise the library and we have a Beast Quest Club that will be taking place in September.
Our big question is.. who will be the first Larrier Legend to read all 72 books? Could it be you???

Larrier's Cooking Club - April 2013

Cameron

We made chocolate buns in cooking club, it was really good and really fun.   I gave a bun to my Ma and my Da – they loved them!   When I’m older I’d like to learn how to make pancakes.

Callum

I make lots of cakes at home.   My favourite is chocolate cake, I make it with my sister, my Nanny and my little brother.

A funny thing happened to me in cooking club.  I leaned over the tray of buns and I stuck my elbow into an uncooked bun, then the bun wrapper and the mixture stuck to my elbow but I didn’t know it was stuck to my elbow and everyone started laughing at me.   When I saw what had happened I started laughing too as it was very funny.

Larriers’ turn out in force for Spring clean

Friday 19.04.13

Ben

On Friday our school took part in our community clean up.  We were all given gloves and special vests to wear so the people would know what we were doing.   It was a very busy morning.

I learnt that you shouldn’t litter, we even found a couch.  We then met a man from the council and he let us have a go of his shovels and brushes, he said that if you want to get rid of a couch you can telephone the council and they will come out and collect it for you.

Jake

We met Gardai Fergus, he was helping the clean up by lifting up all the dangerous things like broken glass and needles before we started.

Don’t litter, never litter, it’s disgusting especially when other people have to pick it up.  We picked up all sorts of rubbish, we even found an old telly.  A reporter took our photograph, he says he’s going to try and sell it to the papers.

Patrick

It is important not to litter as your making the world a bad place, especially broken glass as a small child could pick it up and hurt themselves or a dog could cut his foot and that would make me sad.

Everyone needs to stop littering and make the world a happier place.

It's been a busy year full of mad science experiments in the Larriers this year. A big thanks to all of the students, teachers, snas who took part in the program and to the parents for coming into our open day.

Larrier’s Cooking Club – March 2013

Séan

We made quesadillas in cookery class which are Mexican wraps filled with melted cheese and ham.  They were very quick to make and I liked using the big knife to chop all the ham and the other ingredients.

Jonathan

I think the cheese and ham wraps that we made in school are nice.  I tried the salsa sauce in class but I didn’t like it as it was too spicy.   My favourite part was cooking the wraps and watching the cheese melt.  I’ve already made them at home with my older sister, we gave one to my brother and he likes them too.

Zombies on the Yard..... the story continues

Following the massive success of the 6th class movie 'Zombies on Yard', the boys have been inspired in all matters gorey.
Here's a tale written by one of our younger Larriers, Seán in 2nd class. Beware however, this tale isn't for the faint hearted!

Zombies on Yard – the Story. By Seán Griffin.

We had a brush and I had a spoon. I ran. Our class ran. I ran into the toilet. My friends got eaten! He is a zombie now. I jumped out of the window. The zombies broke in. I got in a car and went to a gun shop. I got lots of guns and smoke bombs. I threw one out. I ran out as well. There were lots of zombies. I got in a car and drove away but they ran after me…
Part 2:
I went to my flat and got my sister and mother. We drove as quickly as we could. My ma was in the front. I was shooting out the window. We went to Longford and got my brother, Step Mam and Dad. We went out the back and into a field. We stopped for a break but we heard something underground. A head popped up! I broke it’s head. I ran to the car and got into it. We went as far away as we could. We went to Africa.
Part 3:
It was hot. There was no one there. Where was everyone? It went late. We saw a zombie. I shot him. It was a mistake. A big one. There was a lot of zombies. We got in the car. We went out of petrol. We were in a fair. My dad went over and got some petrol. I got out of the car and got a gun but I ran out of bullets really soon. I got on a bus. They were all going for me! Luckily, I had two hand guns.
Part 4:
I started to shoot. My dad said ‘Come on, it’s time to go’. I shouted ‘Go without me!’. ‘Ok, let’s go, I love you’. ‘I love you too, goodbye.’ I told my dad that an hour ago I gave Conor some guns. I was very lucky that I did because I nearly died. Conor jumped out of the car and saved me. Then he ran over all of the zombies. He put me in the back of the car but no one noticed that there were baby zombies. They grew…. And grew…………..
The End.

Larrier's Cooking Club - February 2013

By Cian

This was my first time making and eating scones. The best part was tasting them and being able to bring some home to my Nanny.  I’ve already made them again for my dad and brother but I didn’t put any raisins in because my little brother doesn’t like raisins.

By Shane

I’ve never made scones or ate them before either.  I liked mixing the flour and pressing the dough together, it felt all spongy and squashy.  We then took turns to cut out a few scones each and put them on a baking tray.  We spilt a bit of flour on the floor and we had to tidy it up but that was ok because I love sweeping.

Larrier's Cooking Club - January 2013

Karl

Today in cooking club we made chocolate chip cookies.  I really enjoyed the mixing.  I cracked an egg for the first time and was so glad that I got no egg shell in the cookie mix.  We made loads of cookies so we were able to give some to the senior boys who were having a meeting about their French trip, Úna said they loved them.

I like cooking, my favourite thing to cook at home is the “Karl Bag of Wonder”, it’s my own secret recipe, you put everything you love into a tortilla wrap, and fold it tight like a bag – everyone I’ve made it for says it’s delicious.

Evan

I really enjoyed making the cookies today, I used a big knife to carefully cut all the chocolate into small pieces.  I also helped cut the dough into cookies and put them on the baking tray.

We made a mistake by putting all the cookie pieces too close together on the baking tray so when they cooked the mixture spread out and stuck together.  Then instead of 12 small cookies there was one giant cookie BUT this wasn’t a mistake for me, we had made a GIANT PIZZA COOKIE, it was brilliant!  When I make the cookies at home with my Ma I’m definitely going to make this mistake again.

If you would like to try the recipe here it is.
Remember always have an adult with you when you are cooking.

Chocolate Chip Cookies
Makes 10

§  75g of dark chocolate (or use a mixture of what you have at home)
§  110g butter
§  110g caster sugar
§  1 egg yolk
§  125g self raising flour

Equipment:      Baking tray, 2 sheets of greaseproof paper, chopping board, knife, fork,
sieve, mixing bowl, wooden spoon and oven gloves.

1.      Carefully chop the chocolate into small chunks and leave to one side.
2.      Beat the butter and sugar together in a mixing bowl with a wooden spoon until light and creamy, then mix in the egg yolk.
3.      Sift the flour onto the butter and sugar,  using a fork bring together to a soft dough.
4.      Carefully mix in the chocolate chunks.
5.      Dust one piece of greaseproof paper with flour and turn the cookie dough onto it.  Shape into a cylinder and place in the fridge to firm up (this takes about 30 minutes).
6.      When ready to cook, preheat the oven to 1700c/Gas mark 3.  Take the dough from the fridge and cut into slices about 1cm thick.  Place on the baking sheet leaving plenty of room for the cookies to spread out.
7.      Bake for 20 minutes until the cookies are just turning golden brown.
8.      Transfer these to a wire rack and leave to cool.

The Boxing Exhibition, National Stadium, Tuesday, 12th December, 2012

On December 12th all the Larriers went on tour to the Nationl Stadium to cheer on our lads in the IABA/DCC Dublin Primary Schools Boxing Exhibition. It was a great day out with some super bouts. Our boxers even got to have Olympic gold medal boxing legend Michael Carruth as a corner man!

Well done to the five Larrier legends Cian, Dylan, Johnny, Dillon and Kian who fought on the day and collected their Gold Boxing Award Certificates and gold medals.

Well done also to the thirty plus  Larriers who completed the Bronze Boxing Certificate back in September/October and those who contiued and achieved the Silver Certificate in November. Many will be back to go for gold next September.

Our sincere thanks to Paul Quinn, Paddy, Michael Carruth and all the IABA/DCC team for this super initiative. We especially thank them for the opportunity the lads trying for the Gold Certificate got to train at Ireland's High Performance Boxing Gym and to meet and watch our Olympic Boxing heros in training.

Some day it could be us!

A special word of thanks to Dublin Bus, especially Eugene and Mark, who always get us there and back again and without whom there would be no Larriers on Tour at all.
